It breaks my heart to see how the term ‘emcee’ is being misused by every perceived rapper out there. Not many hip-hop artists can actually pride themselves on the lyrical depth, versatility, and cadence that pertain to being an emcee. For one critically acclaimed superstar, D-Lain, based out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, he perfectly fits the word thanks to his musical abilities. He is merely more than just a rapper; he is an artist pushing his own limits as well as breaking boundaries that exist in genres. He is like a revolution, flipping the industry on its head and earning widespread acclaim from far and wide.

Last year, he released his 7-song EP, “Zoned Out,” which went on to receive positive reactions from hip-hop and rap music aficionados. One of the tracks from the EP that did very well is “Zone Out” featuring the vocally gifted songstress Symone. It has garnered over 40K streams, and that’s on Spotify alone.

Seeing the massive buzz the jam generated, D-Lain thought to himself, “I thought, ‘Why not create a music video to elevate it to new heights?'” and that’s exactly what happened!

I want you to understand that there are music videos and visually striking films; “Zone Out” is the latter. I want to hail the time and effort that went into making this eye-catching body of work that is the perfect complement to this jam, both in storyline and symbolism.

The video gets off in a normal setting—D-Lain’s reality world in that Mercedes—before morphing into a sci-fi and anime-like world—the literal meaning of ‘zoning out.’

So you get the smooth music, the lyrical finesse, and the memorable chorus as you explore this new world the music video brings along, escaping from your own reality and becoming one with this newfound reality as the music resonates deeply and emotionally.

Words alone cannot do justice to what I’ve just watched and experienced…it’s only fair that you see it for yourself and experience such cinematic wizardry!
