Ty Bru Shares Insights on His Musical Journey

“Give Me Wings” is captivating from the start to finish with a combination of unique beats and catchy lyrics. What was the inspiration behind the single?

I love the feeling of being absolutely free. I mean that in the sense of within my mind, free of mental anguish, free of conflicting energies, free from concerns and worry. And for me, there are several avenues I can take to get there. Booze, drugs, creating art, deep conversations with people that touch my soul, making love to my wife, getting lost in a good book, holding my son, meeting a person that I connect with on several levels, the feeling of reaching goals and dreams, etc.

That’s what I wanted this song to become, a brief journey into some of the ways I feel that could “give me wings”

What has your musical journey been like? Run us through your story.

It started out 1999 at a fraternity function. I was a DJ at the time and then jumped on the microphone over an instrumental one night and the rest was history. I wrote songs before then, but never performed them outside of close friends or family. Since then I’ve performed in a dozen countries and received international awards for my music.

What were the biggest initial hurdles to pursuing your musical dreams and how did you overcome them?

When it comes to music, there is a very close marriage between that and drugs and alcohol. Getting a grasp on that at times has certainly been one of my biggest hurdles. Since the pandemic though, live performances haven’t been a thing, so I was able to really buckle down and write and record, because it’s always so easy to go up to the bar and drink when you are right there in front of it.

Do you have a favorite musical project that you’ve worked on?

This current one, ‘Triple Bypass: Under Anesthesia’ is very close to my favorite project. I just finished recording it last week, so it’s fairly new. So once I get a chance to fully dissect it, I will have to let you know in our next interview.

Do you have any dream collaborations? Who are they?

I would love to work on a song with Rob Zombie, Kanye West and Norah Jones. I think the mixture of us four would creating something monumental.

What’s your motto or the advice you live by?

I stick to my code of ethics, my compass as it were and I cannot steer away from that. Whoever lives in my house, under the same roof comes first, everytime. I’ve really had to remove myself from many relationships since the pandemic hit and as much as it hurt my heart at times, it was necessary.

Are you working on any project right now and what can we expect from you in the future?

As I just mentioned, I’ve just finished recording my album ‘Triple Bypass: Under Anesthesia’ which is produced entirely by Virginia legend Poe Mack. That’s what the singles ‘Hate Is Useless’ and ‘Give Me Wings’ will be on. We have a few fine tu   ning tweaks to administer at Livewire Studios at the beginning of May and then we will release it later in the month, so be ready! I immediately started recording my next album which is untitled at the moment, but will be produced entirely by Westtopher.
