It’s been a minute since I’ve had such a gripping song as Alabama’s Solo Stunna’s freshest release, “Miss You,” a sonic tour de force that points to a whole new direction for this versatile artist who has previously made a name for himself as a rapper and wordsmith. The beauty of it is how he fits in like a glove, embodying the kind of versatility prowess artists like Post Malone have come to be revered for. In its very first week, the jam had already amassed over 10K streams, and as we talk, it has garnered well over 25K Spotify streams, which is really impressive considering he was stepping into somewhat new ground with nothing but his equally massive faith.
Clocking in at 3 minutes and 1 second, “Miss You” is the kind of jam that leaves a lasting impact on your heart and soul from the very first listen. Stunna went above and beyond to make sure it was worth anyone’s attention, and he really did deliver.
So, I press the play button, and what hits me feels like a wave of sound. The well-prepped guitars lay the foundation as the teasing drum kicks prepare your mind for something great that’s about to happen. And this all leads to a great, lush, and full-bodied instrumental journey accentuated by the body-shattering bass, rollicking guitars, and pounding drums.
Stunna is first on the crime scene, and he really makes a pretty mess, worthy of any top detective’s investigation knack. His delivery is emotionally charged and hook-laden for that infectious appeal, and he surely melds with the dynamic instrumentation with intrinsic precision.
As fate would have it, this jam’s hook was actually written over 15 years ago during a breakup with his now wife of 13 years (I know!) It is a breakup anthem alright, capturing those inevitable emotions of longing for someone, yearning for their memories and moments shared together, and deeply craving them after you’ve broken up and you want them back into your life again.
Involving the strikingly gifted female vocalist Kayli Young was a genius move. Tell you what? She does so much even without doing too much. It is actually fascinating how little details matter in music. Her ad-libs in the background are hauntingly beautiful—like whispers into the stars on a bright night.
Kayli’s contribution adds a layer of sophistication and emotional depth to the track, enhancing its blend of rock, pop, R&B, and hip-hop. She also makes the jam feel so orchestrally immersive in an indescribably beautiful and magical way.
In case you haven’t already noticed, I have nothing but praise words for “Miss You” and a deep admiration for Solo Stunna for stepping out of what maybe was his comfort zone, expanding his creative horizons, and transforming something that was incubated over 15 years ago into an upbeat, radio-friendly sound with dynamic instrumentation, catchy hooks, and an instantly accessible subject matter.
It is important to give artists like Stunna their flowers while they can still smell them by recognizing and acclaiming such heartfelt efforts as the one that went into the making of this sonic centerpiece that is expected to stand the test of time.
A huge shout-out also goes to the drummer, bassist and the producers Stephen PR and Justin Miller for rounding out this complete work of art that is now the talk of town.
“Miss You” is more than guaranteed to elevate Solo Stunna to international acclaim as he continues building on its heavy momentum to release more hits like this.
Check this jam out and let it be the brand new addition to your favorite playlist.
