A poet at heart, Shedrick S.H.E.D Barnett didn’t start practicing his lifelong passion in poetry and music until much later in life, but that has not in any way dimmed his lyrical ingenuity and craftsmanship when it comes to laying his thoughts down on paper. He is also the author of two magnificent books, “Finally out of the Bedroom” and “Poetic Storytelling,” that is now available for purchase.
While many of you have gotten used to him delivering fluent spoken word masterpieces, in his latest track, “No More Mr. Nice Guy”, he decided to put his versatility to the test, and the result of that is ethereally gratifying.
This is his first-ever rap track, and if you were to stumble on it for the very first time and you didn’t know who Shedrick was, you wouldn’t guess it’s his first—he comes through like a seasoned lyrical rapper with sharp-witted and thought-inspiring bars and his vibrant voice.
He is raw and very direct; he pulls no punches, and when he raps, it’s like he is talking, and when he talks, it’s like he is rapping; a subtle balance is achieved here that makes him talk over the beats in a way that defies satisfactory explanation.
The melodies have been added with that deep cinematic vibrato to significantly underscore the heavy theme on the show…this track was born as a result of Shedrick S.H.E.D Barnett feeling that enough is enough as far as being used by narcissistic people with their unreasonably high sense of their own importance.
He bites, and when he does, he bites hard to fashion an ear-grabbing tune that appeals to listeners from all walks of life. This high-grade beat was produced by Kaliko…Props to him for engineering something of such staggering quality.
“No More Mr. Nice Guy” is a testament record that highlights Barnett’s boundless creativity and virtuosity as a storyteller and performer, and I hope we all get more of this side from him!
