Shabnam Jaleh is the voice of all those Iranian women who have been rendered voiceless, and as the revolution and fight for freedom continue, she is using her musical gifts to spread the message on a global platform. Jaleh was born in Tehran, Iran, but her family migrated to the USA in the quest for freedom. Her singing career began back in 2009, under the guidance of various classical Persian musicians. The founding father of Persian Pop music and the Black Cats, Shahbal Shabpareh, took her under his wings and fueled her creative pursuit with her 2018 debut single, “Radsho,” her first-ever Farsi cover of an American pop song.
With Iranian women still not allowed to practice music, Jaleh is among the lucky few who are living their dreams, and that is why, despite being in America, she has never abandoned her Iranian culture and continues pursuing her music that reflects her background, language, and the power of an Iranian woman.
Jaleh’s music is not only a celebration of her heritage but also a powerful tribute to the strength and resilience of Iranian women. Her lyrics are empowering, and her voice is a force to be reckoned with. Her rise to fame has been nothing short of remarkable, and now she is using her global influence to pass on a deeply impactful message of love and freedom in her new single, “Azadi.”
“Azadi” was actually written and produced in Iran, but for safety reasons, the songwriters’ and musicians’ names will remain anonymous. The cover art perfectly depicts the inspiration behind this heartwarming masterpiece: there are couples holding hands and embracing in the midst of the fight for freedom currently going on in Iran.
This track is a beautiful reminder of how love unlocks freedom and vice versa, and has been delivered in the quintessential delicious Persian language with the backing of one of the most beautiful, smooth, and mellifluous voices you’ve ever heard!
The fight is on, and as Shabnam Jaleh fights on one end, the beautiful Iranian people fight on the other, and together, they are fighting for something bigger than themselves: this freedom will be enjoyed by millions of generations after them, and that will have counted for something!
