Nomina was born in Plumtree, Zimbabwe, and raised in Gaborone, Botswana, before migrating to Aachen, Germany, to study. Orphaned at a tender age, Nomina was forced to grow up at a young age. She and her 4 siblings didn’t have a lot and had to live within their means. This hardship pushed her to focus on what was important, becoming hardworking and disciplined in everything that she put her mind to from the beginning. As someone whose musical interest was cultivated in her from a young age, it was only a matter of time before she started practicing it on a more professional level!
Nomina’s music can’t be boxed and can only be defined as eclectic and prolific. This African artist pulls from an assortment of sounds and fits each of these sounds—from Afro and R&B to pop and Amapiano like a glove. She is effortless and never forces anything, instead allowing each beat to act as a new adventure that she’s taking her listeners on!
Her latest single, “Rice,” is a huge testament to her versatility and non-conformism to any one type of genre/sound. In this simple yet expressive banger, Nomina takes cues from the South African-celebrated Amapiano style and eats it up, leaving no crumbs behind.
Inspired by the simple yet impactful ‘Rice’ theme, Nomina tells the tale of hardworking rice farmers who ensure most of the population, whose staple food is rice, never ever lacks anything to eat. Just from the intro, the lively percussions set the stage for the full-blast Amapiano beats to curse in with the subtle hints of Chinese sound adding that sonic variety and crystal clear polish!
On the vocal front, Nomina gives this tune a dynamic vibe as she delivers her lyrics in English, Ndebele, and a bit of Chinese. Her vocals are effortlessly powerful and breathe that energetic life into the narrative.
The refreshing Amapiano beats, multi-lingual lyrics, and of course the captivating vocals are set to contribute to the growing success of “Rice,” which is already demanding attention from a massive faction of listeners!
