Thank you for your time. So given these unusual Covid-19 times, what does a typical day look like for you? How have you adjusted to these times?
Thank you for taking some time for me too.
For my part, I spend a lot of time with my family (kids and husband) as I feel bless to be able to do so in this dire time. On the other hand, I had the plan to release my third album this year and celebrate my 13 years in the music industry. So, the release had been delayed because of the Covid-19 but this has given me the opportunity to sing a song about the plague with my son, and this was great time for both of us.
Tell me about the music video for “Mujing”?
The song “Mujing” tells the story of a mother who gave birth to 100 children but 10 of whom have just died, and she is saddened because she barely had time to know them. The moral of this story is let’s take the time to get to know and love each other while we are still alive.
Your new single is incredibly beautiful! What’s the story behind “Murund”?
“Murund” means “friend”. The song is about a married woman who betrayed her two best friends: her husband and her longtime friend. And where do they decide to do their dirty business, nowhere else that her marital bed. Betrayed and heartbroken, she drinks herself silly and she things about dying as her world is falling apart. Often this king of figure case arises but no one really speak about it. The video may be shocking for some but I want ring some bells about this matter.
What sets your music apart? What is unique, or at least uncommon?
I sing in Ruund a dialect of Lubumbashi (Republic Democratic of Congo) as I would like to promote my tribal culture in which I have grown up. I also would like to inspire others from other part of Africa to do the same. Our culture must be preserved, music is a way to do so. In some songs of my new album some other artists are featuring and they sing in their respective language to.
Who inspires you the most?
The person in my life who inspired me the most is “Mujing A Sar” a Ruund music icon. He was my mentor and he supported me a lot. Passed away not so long ago, I dedicated the song “Mujing” to him.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be?
I would like to collaborate with as many artists as possible, from all background. I have never really been able to travel munch, so, I have been listening to foreign music/songs in order to cruise around the world. I would love it if people who listen to my music could travel to.
How do you hope to enter the new year?
An invisible virus reminded me of how important it was to forge loose ties with my family and a few friends with whom I didn’t communicate much. I wish to enter this new year 2021 with the resolutions that I have already started to apply this year with an open heart:
