Interview: Mingkoo Shares Insights on His Musical Journey

What would you say is the most rewarding part of being a Music producer?

There are specific ways to express myself. The music released under the name Mingkoo is an outlet that fully and extremely expresses 100% of myself. I’m grateful that there are ways in individuals can fully reveal selves.

How do you go about producing a song?

A lot of work is done inside the computer. However, to get an idea or a sound source to use for music, i play the guitar or record various sounds around me. Besides guitar, I am very interested in string instruments, so I try to play various instruments and have ideas. Recently, analog synthesizers have been actively used.

Was there anyone or anything in particular that pushed you to pursue music?

In the first question, I answered that music is self-expression. After all, for me, music has been the most means of self-expression, so I keep play music. If things like writing or drawing were more suitable than music, I would have expressed myself through them. I have had a variety of experiences, and among them, music that I can sustain.

Do you have a favorite musical project that you’ve worked on?

Perhaps because I think of my own music as self-expression, listening to other people’s music also gives me an opportunity to deepen my understanding of that person. I am also active as a sound engineer, so I often mix music from other artists. It’s a great pleasure to work with artists who often use new sounds that I wouldn’t have tried.

Is there an artist you want to work with that you have not yet had the opportunity to work with?

Everyone wants to be with a famous artist. I can also prepare the names of famous artists here. But what I always want more is work with unknown artists. I want to meet a lot of artists who are not typical and are not subdued, who give me a new stimulus.

What do you like to do for fun outside of working on music?

I think music is no longer competitive with music alone. Now is the time for comprehensive art, so I am always interested in collaborating with other art fields or planning new content.

What is one message you would give to your fans?    

I am really grateful for just listening to my music. It is not music that takes into account the popular sense. Nevertheless, someone sympathizes with my music. This is a great pleasure for me.
