Mesa Jane’s cover of Radiohead’s “All I Need” is quite simply, epic.

Mesa Jane is a genre-bending artist based in Philadelphia. She taps into her life experiences and those of others to offer honest lyrics in storytelling that audiences have found to be both engaging and relatable. With a distinct style, she has been hitting the big time with her soulful voice and mature lyrics. Writing her songs from personal experiences gives the lyrics a very real feeling that is easy to connect with because, as humans, we all go through different situations, but underneath, we all feel the same emotions. Bringing healing with her music, her lyrics provide insight and perspective into many aspects of life, speaking to the heart and soul. She is not only interested in breaking records but in shattering them completely!

Mesa returns with one of the most fascinating covers of Radiohead’s “All I Need” that I have ever listened to. I know it’s crazy when I say this, but she really leaves an indelible stamp on this record, packing quite the punch in an authentic way!

This is one of those covers that respectfully honors the original while using its innovative foundation as a trampoline to reach exciting new grounds. Her voice is so rich, golden, soulful, and powerful, and she knows how to utilize it, making for such a memorable performance.

The instrumentation is well chosen and offers listeners a timbrally diverse and tonally rich palette of sounds to digest. And I love how she blends her voice as an instrumentation in several sections of the track so that she comes off as if she is beat boxing. It might seem random, but it really adds depth and sonic elegance to the track overall.

Let’s talk about that striking cover, which features a burning car that has hit a metal guardrail, and just how the fire matches the sun and the contrast of light and darkness. A viewer’s eye is first drawn to the car, then to the sun, and then back out to the whole image, which is really powerful. This picture was actually captured by her son in what was an unplanned moment, and look how that turned out… a cover art as powerful as the song itself!

“All I Need” is positively bursting with both sonic elegance and crystal-clear polish. Superbly performed, exquisitely produced, and lovingly arranged—what more could a music fan possibly need?
