We are happy to have you today. Tell us about your 2021 so far! What have you been up to?

Coming into 2021 was the start of a very traumatic season of my life. In addition to the aspects related to pandemic confusion and disorder all were experiencing worldwide, at a micro level many tribulations faced my loved ones directly in a very impactful and distressing way.  I will not get into details, but let’s say I am beginning to come out of the fog of tremendous sorrow, and through creative expression in music and writing, among other things, I am processing emotionally and spiritually as I “level up” into my personal next season.

When or how did you realize that a career in the music field is the path for you? What was your inspiration behind the same?

I am 44 years old now, and music has always been a major part of every aspect of my life.  My father and uncle both played guitar and as the saying goes “You plant corn, you get corn”, I quickly delved into that aspect of experience in guitar as well as saxophone, piano, percussion, vocals, etc.  I played in some various bands in high school at things like birthday parties and fire hall dances, and while I was serving as a US Marine, I started a family and went into a safe career of information technology; however, I have always been involved in a project or band in one fashion or another.  This time around with the self-titled project I am working on, I am trying to tap into the innermost nature of self and climb out into the next go round.

Congratulations on your latest track “Unstoppable”, how do you feel about the newfound success?

I think many musicians will have different reasons for why they make music.  But I do feel one thing is the same.  While the juice flows from heart and soul of the artist in the creation in form, it is always a super nice bonus if someone else can relate to that work and enjoy it!  44 years to get something with this amount of momentum thus far is more than I could ever imagine and makes my heart swell.

What was the inspiration behind the single?

My soul partner Edyie and I recently did a project back in 2019 where we dived deep into free form and experimental sound with heavy synth and her on vocals.  I had to sell off some Roland gear I had to make some ends meet and that put me back into more time in front of the DAW.  What started as sadness in my heart and a drip of inspiration formed into a melody while I sat one night at my little Casio.  From there…  this single “Unstoppable”, which is the first release of what I hope to be a full album to drop on Dec 23.  I better get cracking!

What gives you a sense of independence as an artist when you’re composing music? The creative freedom to compose music or the idea that you have so much more to explore and find in the way you see your music; have you ever felt like you’ve reached a creative wall? How did you get past that?

Yes, absolutely, I hit walls all the time.  But like any art, the art speaks to me and tells me when it thinks it is ready to proceed or wait.  I try my best to not let my mind get in that way, although that always takes work for me to be patient.  However, the fact that the work and I are both in complete control the entire time is soothing to say the least.

Please walk us through your music-making process, from conception to completion. Is the procedure the same every time you work on a new song?

Every time is different.  I have certain things I do in certain bathes but from what strikes me could be the moon phase or a hungry stomach or everything or nothing at all.  Sometimes I like to just screw around and sometime something pops out the other side.  Sometimes, it doesn’t.  I suppose magic is like that.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

I once got it on in a Burger King bathroom.  Just kidding.

For our final question, is there anything else you would like to add?

Nothing about me, but will I say in closing is this.  Every woman and man is a star.  Love is the answer.  Know thyself and to thine own self be true.  Thanks for having me!

Thank you very much for taking the time to respond to these questions, and best of luck in the future.
