Exclusive Interview: Lokye Delves on His Creative Tastes, His Inspirations & His Latest Release “Weird Kid”

Where do you originally hail from and where are you based now?

I’m originally from the upper east side of Manhattan. Yorkville to be exact. I moved to Detroit in 2009 and currently live, and run a art gallery Granny’s Chandelier in a small city inside of Detroit Called Hamtramck.

Congratulations on your new release “Weird Kid” How are you feeling about sharing this with the world?

It Feels Great to release this project to the world. S/O to The Super Robot King for making this awesome soundscape for my story’s. S/O to all the weird kids out there staying creative smoking big doinks hotboxing outside of the liquor store.

What was the inspiration behind “Weird Kid”?

The inspiration comes from 90s hip hop, ghetto fashion, graffiti, skating, Foreign women anime, abstract expressionism,and surrealist philosophy. Oooo yea Can’t forget Marijuana.

Do you get nervous before you release new music or is it more of an excitement for you?

It’s exciting. Kinda like a game to see what publication I can get on. Try out different creative roll out plans. I’m a artist so the role out and marketing campaign can be very fun.

Are there any specific elements you like to throw into your songs?

I try to make shore to ad a melody to every song I work on. Songwriting is very important to me. I try to make shore the words are painting and the picture I’m trying to produce for the audience.

What do you miss the most about performing live for a crowd?

performance is one of my favorite parts. I have actually performed numerous times in the past year. I do miss performing at festivals and clubs, yet I’ve done a few zoom performances and my last 2 art shows had elements of performance. WEIRD KID exhibition in NYC at Fire Place gallery April 11th and In Hamtramck My latest solo exhibition at Public Pool June 26th. The show was Titled Lokye and was an abstract representation of what I’ve been threw the past 12 years.

What are the biggest lessons you’ve learned this past decade?

Wee all are just speck of dust on this word in this universe. Wee are in control of only are reality and can spread are gospel to help others but ultimately We’re just following gods plan.

Where do you see your career headed in the following year?

2021 has been a wild ride. Going forward I’m expecting a baby with amazing woman. I will continue to work on making my gallery the best space it can be. For my music I’ll be dropping a Ep in late July or August called Drill To The Heavens. This tape was made in Hawaii wile mixing and masters WEIRD KID with The Super Robot King . Seven tracks inspired by drill music. So make shore to keep and eye out for that. Also in late September October I’ll be dropping Color Coated 3. Witch has some awesome fetters and production me and my team are very existed about.
