Houston’s Finest Music Producer Loc-G Puts His Versatile Skills to the Test With His Debut First Full-Length Project, “Risky Business Vol.1,” (a Collaborative Tour de Force With $TYLJA)
A 10-track project that showcases some of the finest productions ever created, “Risky Business Vol. 1” is a taste of what Houston, Texas has to offer when it comes to hip-hop and rap royalty. Who could have imagined that rap music could speak volumes without words? You know, without the lyrics, Loc-G aka PTLG and his crew Tha Bossplayaz take us to this vast sonic sphere where only the music matters. If you listen closely, the music speaks to you. What that is depends on how you consume your music and the emotions it evokes inside of you. You can never go wrong because eventually, most of the music we listen to ends up evoking similar kinds of emotions…The music varies, but the emotional resonance remains the same.
Back to the music, “Risky Business Vol.1” is really what you call a record. This is going above and beyond in the name of creating something that stands the test of time. Loc-G sets the scene and tone with the standout opener “Goodsen,” that is, to say the least, otherworldly. The production is deep and expressive, featuring sampled vocals and intriguing additions that captivate the listener. Loc-G’s creative spark shines as he blends those beat loops like a pro, capturing the essence of break hip-hop that feels very natural thanks to that distinctive addition that you will feel as the song progresses.
“Porsche 928” is another smooth and emotive banger. This beat here stings and is one that really bites. And I guess that shouldn’t be surprising, as the title really speaks for itself. Once the beats have been unleashed, there is no stopping, cruising this endless highway with a controlled yet adrenaline-rushing tempo. Embodying short and sweet, there is a way I found myself wishing it were longer…and who can blame me? This is a slick stinger!
“Hypnotic” lives up to the title in a special way. That blend of rhythm and melody keeps circling around like vultures, giving it that compelling feel that stays with you outside the jam!
“Under the Moon” has a distinctive funky and poppish vibe, cleverly underscoring its thematic essence as Loc-G and co. transport you to another space altogether where everything is strangely fascinating. The precise drums and keys evoke such a pleasant tone, and the execution leaves nothing to be desired.
There’s a host of undeniable sonic excellence unleashed on this project, such as the last jam, “Safety Wondering” that has been accompanied by a visually striking video. The music is smooth and takes you to places. It feels very conversational, even without the words!
