K.J. Rogers hails from a musical family seeing that his dad was the house and dance music pioneer CeCe Rogers and growing up, his dad, as well as other luminaries, influenced him to music and he has been through this journey working with various established labels as well as independent artists but he now wants to sell himself out there as a solo artist and the debut project, “To Whom It May Concern” is the way he wants to make a mark in his solo music career.
“To Whom It May Concern” is a 9-piece project that more than anything highlights his versatility and ability to break through with sense and authenticity. K.J. Rogers is a multi-genre artist whose music does not conform to the restrictions in genres. So you might be astonished at how easily he can rap over beats as well as sing and faultlessly fit in even in the dance and house genre like in the first track off of this EP, “Higher Plane” which is a melodically transcending house tune that is embellished with the trademark ink of K.J. Rogers featuring Justin Charles.
“Higher Plane” really did intrigue my fascination due to the tremendous amount of rhythm and melody that it boats. From the onset, the beats make a deluxe entrance and invite a listener to the dance floor as the deep house elements amalgamate for that ethereally fulfilling sound that you simply cannot get enough of. The vocal display is simply mellifluous with the duo taking you to heaven with the effortless power those vocals hold.
There is also that scintillating improvisation to allow this track to flex its sonic diversity that echoes some pop and R&B in performance and is why a listener will find so much to digest from this record.
The laid-back soulful and nostalgic R&B vibe in, “Down to Ride Lover Boy” is perfect for an evening alone with your lover and the blend between urban R&B, hip-hop and pop in the tune, “Say When” will be appreciated by a vast majority of listeners, especially with that memorable hook.
There is so much to enjoy through this album and by the end of your listening experience, you’ll be entranced by most of the tracks if not all.
