There is only so much adversity a soul can endure and for Colorado artist Dre’Shawn Jones, who goes by the stage name of J-SHWA, life has not been particularly kind to him- born of an absentee father and a drug-addicted mother, J-SHWA was forced to grow up in foster care for nearly a decade. Before then, he had been forced to steal food in the streets so as to feed his siblings. In 2003, things took a nasty turn and he was convicted of gun violence and incarcerated. He realized that this sort of life was not for him and in 2010; he together with his friends put up money to buy a recording studio which kick-started Jones’s career in rap with his adopted stage name, “J-SHWA”

The streets made him and his music mirror his own struggles and the struggles of all those young people growing up in the hoods. While the music today and especially hip-hop music has neglected its core conscious objective which was to pass on messages about its own people, instead of replacing that with the flashy and fake lifestyles and some classy videos, J-SHWA has not forgotten where he came from and his music is deeply relatable to people everywhere who have had to fight their way through difficult odds and make something for themselves!

This is exactly the deep and impactful message present in his new track, “KIN 2 ME”- a certified and real rap music that echoes that laid-back yet intense melodicism of the 90s and 00s hip-hop music. He speaks real-life coming through the streets- the poverty levels, the drug abuse and organized crime, the hassles of folks trying to provide for their families, and so on.

This is exactly the type of tune to resonate with- especially if you are a youth man not feeling hopeful in your own future; you and your kin will eventually make it through the mud and life will feel good again. His powerful bars over the smoking instruments that have been stupendously produced will give you more reason to play the track again and again.

This is deep and conscious music reimagined and you don’t want to miss such a rap masterclass! “KIN 2 ME” is available everywhere- follow the attached link and let J-SHWA tell you the life of the street!
