They say tough times build strong people. J.Irja the Sexy Psycho is a true embodiment of that statement. If you like, you can call her the Hip Hop Heroine. She is going all out and she Can’t Stop, she Won’t Stop.

Her new song, “Drowning”, which features the Hip Hop Great Royce da 5’9, is Part 1 (Sadness) of the trilogy “3 Stages of Grief, where she chronicles her journey through her depression from loss of her sister, mentor, aunt, granddad, and baby daddy all in a period of 3 months. She has channeled her pain, and her experiences to deliver beautiful music.

“They say whatever don’t kill you make you stronger, then why do I feel so weak?” she raps over the somber beat, produced by Namebrand Beats. “…wish I could tell you all my problems, but I don’t think you would understand”, She raps, displaying her explosive lyricism, as she has down a number of times before on her previous tracks such as “Made Me Crazy” where she features Twista. Royce da 5’9 also did justice to the song. “Drowning” sets her apart from many of her female counterparts, as she turns her pain into art, singing about her real-life experiences, singing to all the warriors out there who have fought battles and won, and for those who are still fighting battles.

Her musical journey has been a difficult one, following a tumultuous childhood, living in a poverty-stricken home, having to work at a tender age to help put food on the table, to getting severe head injuries, to being in a toxic relationship with her manager, who set her back from achieving her goal of making it in music. She is a powerful rapper on the rise, not despite her setbacks in life, but Because of them. Listen to Drowning on Spotify below.
