We are happy to have you today. Tell us about your 2021 so far, what have you guys been up to?
So far, what Hollywood Nightmare has been up to in 2021 is relaxing in each member’s hometown, working as much as possible and continuing to write and work on the band’s music. And of course, continuing to ride out and wait for this pandemic to ease up and for shows to open again.
How did the band first get started?
Hollywood Nightmare first officially started in 2016 when Scott Mik and (former vocalist) Marcus Revan, who both attended the school Musicians Institute, thought of the idea to start a project based off the similar music they both shared an interest in. With Scott writing amazing music and Marcus writing catchy lyrics, they decided to make it official and have other people come on board. That is when the other members started joining the band. Logan Alger hopped on as guitarist, followed by Kyle Davies as the bassist at first and then vocalist. They both went to Musicians institute as well. Luke Nightmare later joined as the drummer, after meeting the band on the website Bandmix.com. And just recently we brought Dex van Rooyen as a bassist.
How did you come up with the band name “Hollywood Nightmare”?
The band name was thought of to communicate the type of life the band lives. Living in Hollywood, which is known for all its amazing talent, promise, and opportunity, mainly due to what Hollywood movies portray, has another side to it. A darker side, a side that you only see when you live there day to day and see all “behind the scenes” of living there.
How would you describe your sound to someone who just listened to your music for the first time?
I would describe our sound as a heavy metal sound that has many different influences coming from each band member who draw from their own favorite genres and that is also continuously changing. It will always be heavy, catchy, fun, amazing, and enticing, but overall, the sound we produce is the sound of this band’s life, coming from the day-to-day life and hardships we live through. So as the band progresses, changes, and grows in real life, the music and the sound will progress, change, and grow.
How has these past few months of quarantine affected you all creatively?
We have all had more time on our hands these past few months of quarantine and have tried tackling projects that have been on the back burners. But with life slowing down in general, so has the band. We continue to practice and write but have taken this time to rest and rejuvenate to prepare ourselves to come back harder than ever when the doors open again.
What is one message you would give to your fans?
One message I would want to give to our fans is: don’t pick your nose while on zoom, your webcam might be on. And never take no as an answer and never let people tell you what you can and can’t do. and things will beg.
What advice do you have for anyone interested in starting their own band?
