Heistheartist is an American Christian singer-songwriter from Central Islip, NY. Formerly a secular neo-soul singer signed to “Bentley Records” under his biological name “LeeMann Bassey,” Heistheartist discovered that his true calling was with the Lord after hearing an inspiring sermon by TD Jakes online one day. That day he was inspired to teach the world about the Lord like TD Jakes did with his Sermon, but through music.
“Sometimes/I Want You Around” is the second single to come off Heistheartist’s EP “Adam & Eve” that debuts on August 28th. It is a Smooth Jazz Medley of “Sometimes” by Britney Spears and “I Want You Around” by Snoh Aalegra.
The lyrics “I want you around round, round, round” mimics the winding of the serpent in the story of “Adam & Eve” while the lyrics “Sometimes I run, Sometimes I hide” mimic the innocence of both Adam and Eve. It is all tied in with a Latin Jazz acoustic guitar which references the Brazilian Giant Anaconda snakes.
We chatted with Heistheartist about his latest single, “Sometimes/I Want You Around” and the inspiration behind the iconic track.
Thank you for your time and for speaking with us! How’s everything going?
Everything is going great. I have a new EP called “Adam & Eve” coming out on August 28th that I’m excited for the world to hear. It tells the biblical story of Adam & Eve through covers of popular songs and my own original songs.
What sets your music apart? What is unique, or at least uncommon?
I’m a Gospel/Jazz/Neo-Soul/Pop artist. That genre mixture alone sets me apart from other artists. My goal is not to be “different” though. It’s the sound and genre mixture that resonates with my spirit.
Who are your main musical influences?
Kim Burrell, Sade, Maxwell, D’Angelo and Prince.
What can we expect from you in the remaining part of 2020?
Watch out for more covers of popular songs on my Instagram page on my new segment called “Bedroom Covers”
Who would you want to collaborate with in the near future?
Definitely Kim Burrell. She spearheaded the Gospel-Jazz genre and it would be nice to collaborate with the founder of my genre.
