Exclusive Interview: Heathensun Delves on Their Creative Tastes, Their Inspirations & Their New Single “Man of Steal”

Let’s get this started off right. For those who may not be familiar with Heathensun, what would you say makes your band distinct or unique?

Honestly, it’s that we are not actually a band. We are just 3 a-holes who like to talk $hit through music. We have an image that fits that. You see 2 dudes with masks you assume your going to get jacked, and honestly, you might. You see a dude in a kilt and you think man this guy is wearing a skirt, and honestly, Johnny has worn those too. We don’t care what you think of us or how much crap you talk. We are the top of the top and we won’t stop cause we are here for a good time and a long time.

Can you share more with our readers about your latest release “Man of Steal”?

At one time they called Johnny Freako Suave. Cause let’s be honest if we can, everyone wants to know what’s under the kilt. Without physically showing you, we let you know that everything is bigger when you are from the great state of Texas. That’s what man of steal is about. We can take your girlfriends, we can take your boyfriends, Hel, we’ll take your parents and show them something they’ve never seen before.

Let’s go through some delicious backstories now. How did Heathensun come to be, and what were some of your early ambitions or visions as a band?

Oh, juicy backstory! DrunknDonuts and Lo-key reached out to Johnny and said hey, what do you think about writing music. He responded with, “Can I write about anything I want?”. As long as we don’t get locked up for it sure lol. Next thing you know, 9 songs about beards, boobs, butts, beers, bud, bongs, and…..I can’t think of another b word. Ultimately we just wanna make something that everyone can relate to. You may not like every song, but at least one might resonate with you. Bitches!, that’s the other word I was looking for. Bitches, or beaches if we are going to be edited before post.

There’s a lot of interesting background there! Let’s speak about goals a little more. Have your aims or opinions shifted since you initially started out? What are your current aims or goals?

Oh yeah for sure, again we just wanted to have fun and talk $hit, but as of recently, we’ve decided to reach for the stars. That’s why every song on the first album has a celebrity name drop in it. No one is safe from us. We want to bring out the absolute worst and best out of people. The fact that Johnny’s ex pulled him aside and had more than just words for him just proves he don’t care what he says. In our song, Who is Johnny, it says that he is an a-hole three bars in. Apparently he wants to be the biggest there is.

How do you get pumped up before a big event?

The song, Heathenstoned, pretty much sums it up. Johnny parties like he’s drinking for three. Lo-key said it one time, less indica more sativa, no, more sativa less indica, no, an equal mix, no that’s not right either….eh it’ll come to me later. Wait what was the question?

Are you currently working on any special projects?

Johnny as of late has been wanting to learn how to dance. After we had Beach, Heathenstoned, Grady Blaze and Death fan made dance videos done for those songs (all were made of their own free will I promise) he has been on a mission to learn. You should see this dude. He dances like the whitest whit dude you’ve ever met mixed with a chicken minus the head, ah man that’s fun to watch. Check out his TikTok to see for yourself.
