donRUMBA, a prolific rapper, has etched outsmart rap vocals in his newly released music single. He enchanted viewers with a clever rap verse in the music video for “Amanda.” When we approached the rapper for an interview, he immediately replied with a supportive gesture. We wished the rapper luck in his current and potential endeavors. Here are a few highlights from the riveting interview.
Was there anyone or anything in particular that pushed you to pursue music?
Well the art that 2pac blessed the world with molded me as an artist.
What is the motivation behind such a lyrically rich and melodically unique single “Amanda”?
The song was my response to how I see women being treated in today’s society especially the melanin-rich ones.
What is your creative process when creating new music?
Once I find a beat I generally mumble a rhyme pattern then I fill in actual words. The instrumental dictates where the song goes.
What does music mean to you?
Music is very therapeutic for me because I speak about real-life events. Music is my happiness next to soccer.
What were the biggest initial hurdles to pursuing your musical dreams and how did you overcome them?
It was mostly fear of how I would be accepted creating this unique blend of hip hop and dance hall. I also had to do a lot of research before releasing music on DSP because I simply didn’t know how to monetize the music.
What has been the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?
Doing this interview with African Hype, I’m excited to be recognized in any fashion in the motherland and being interviewed on a Jamaican radio station.
If you are asked to collaborate with a renowned musician, whose name will you write down?
Davido, Chris brown, bounty killa or Dj premiere. Those songs would be golden to me.
Are you working independently or with any production house or recording label?
I am currently working independently and improving on my marketing because I do believe I have quality music that I hope a few people might like.
