As things go along, there are very few talents in the music business who nurture the ability to pause time. David Dave, a versatile musician, gave the Afro-Caribbean scene some brilliant compositions that shed light on his innovative visionary. And aspiring to inspire the crowd. Recently, our team had the opportunity to have a small chat with this budding artist, and we had some very fascinating info about his life and career. Read below to find out more.

Thank you for speaking with us at African Hype. What’s the first thing you hope new listeners feel when listening to your music?

The song is for all Broken-hearted youth without a valentine this year. The song is supposed to offset the sadness, loneliness, and negativity experienced by youth feeling left out on Valentine’s day. This version is perfect for jilted suitors and separated lovers to feel upbeat and perhaps take a cue from the message of its lyrics that speak of being sick of love and wasting time over brooding and negativity.

Congratulations on your new single “So Sick (Afro-Caribbean Mix)” What was the inspiration behind it?

Thank you. The inspiration behind making this version was the lyrics me liking the original song very much. So Sick is an original song by American R&B singer-songwriter Ne Yo also known as Shaffer Chimere Smith. The song sends out a clear message to men spurned or separated emphasizing the pointlessness of keeping on pining over someone. It encourages the listener to pick themselves up and move on rather than wait in hope of unrequited love. My version is an attempt to spruce up the song with an Afro-Caribbean beat making it livelier to resonate with his objective of providing something positive for the broken-hearted this valentine’s day.

What has your musical journey been like? Run us through your story.

My musical journey has just begun. I left music for a while because of dancing. My dance became unsuspected successful and I was featured on German national TV shows like Got to Dance, Got Talent, etc. . I was lucky to perform as a backup dancer for Netta Barzilai, the winner of Eurovision 2018. I just recently signed a management and recording deal with Kron Management and now I am back in the studio writing and producing new stuff for my project and for other artists.

You have an amazing voice. Are you vocally trained?

Since living music for a while, I also paused with the vocal training now that I am back at it, I will definitely continue getting my voice professionally trained. It is also essential for one to become better at what one does. There is always room for improvement even if you are good. So for me to keep making great music, the musical instrument will continuously be trained.

If you didn’t like music what would you like to do?

That’s a great question. I really love the entertainment industry so I guess I will definitely doing something else behind the scenes in the entertainment industry.

Do you have any dream collaborations? Who are they?

There are some great musicians mostly in the Afropop and afrobeat world I will love to collaborate with. I can not name them all as I have a lot of great artists I would love to collaborate with. The big names like Sarkodie, Wikid, Kaaki, Shattawale, Davido, Manifest, Cina Soul, Wanlov etc are definitely on top of my list.
