Ever since he stepped into the ring, Louisiana’s lyricist D-Lain has been expunging his purported competitors with his never-heard-before lyrical wisdom. He is swift with his words and cuts through with sharp wit like a Viking sword! Like a mixed martial artist, D-Lain rhymes with crafty savagery, tap-dancing between flows, beats, and silence with an intuitive and spontaneous rhythm that lands each sick flow and fierce verse in a transfixing demeanor.
What started out as just a masterpiece in “Zone Out” birthed a 6-track adventurous collection dubbed “Zoned Out” that is more like a lyrical continuation of the leading single that featured the sensationally gifted vocalist Symone. In this EP, D-Lain’s brilliantly crafted rap rhymes are a tapestry of cosmic consciousness woven with the everyday realities of life as D-Lain maintains the heart and soul that hip hop music was founded on: real-life issues, street life and vibe, social concerns, and survival!
Like an impeccably lubricated twin-clutch, D-Lain just effortlessly and swiftly shifts from observational daily musings to mystic introspection—reflecting on past life events while mindfully meditating on the present and contemplating the mysteries of the future. This is such a powerful injection of underground rap in its organic form!
The leading single “Zone,” featuring the beautifully gifted songstress Symone, has already been widely acclaimed, going on to garner over 12K Spotify streams so far and still counting. This track is far beyond what words can express—the way they trade verses; D-Lain coming through with his poetic interjections as Symone injects the track with a sick dose of that R&B syndrome, is why you deserve this masterpiece in your playlist!
“Dividend Drops” is enough to prove why there is no one capable of going this hard when it comes to freestyle than D-Lain- in his matchless performance; he exudes that kind of predatory instinct to strike when it best suits him. He slithers through the soulful beats like an anaconda, and if you are not careful, you might end up on the hospital bed suffering from that vicious venomous bite from his menacing wordplay!
The track, “Riverfront’ is really what happens when two very different minds come together to engineer something completely unique. The guest performer Tajh Spikes supplements the banger with his memorable performances and goes on to give this piece that luxurious feel, displaying such lyrical acumen that has been missing in the modern rap world!
I am still suffering from the arresting after-effects of the masterpiece, “Bartender”- what D-Lain does with that chorus man; he didn’t have to go this hard! This is a special blend of sick flows and mad vibes. There is no way in hell you get over such a performance as this…this next-level musicianship, even by D-Lain’s exceptional standards. The way he flows over the nostalgic beats like water makes Aquaman sound like a bad joke!
It really goes without saying that “Bartender” is one of my favorites from this distinguished collection that has been deeply rooted in the conventionalism of the underground genre…anything you’d wish for in rap music is here; raw bars, clever punchlines, thought-provoking rhymes, smart production, and that reminiscent vibe that comes with old school music.
It is such an honor therefore to recommend to you this special collection from someone who is at the top of the rap food chain and is not leaving any crumbs behind—follow the attached link to stream “Zoned Out” in its entirety and don’t let D-Lain slip off your radar because there is another special record, “Louisiana Living,” on the horizon that you don’t want to miss!
