After Chrystal Copland’s exceptional EP was released, we caught up with an insightful interview with such a talented artist to explore her eidetic experience and what she had to say about her incredible musical journey so far. Read below to learn some interesting details about Chrystal Copland.
Thank you for speaking with us at African Hype. What’s the first thing you hope new listeners feel when listening to your music?
I hope they feel the emotion of the song. I hope that I can emote a feeling.
“Way Out” is captivating from the start to finish with a combination of unique beats and catchy lyrics. What was the inspiration behind the single?
The inspiration was a very dark and depressing relationship that I was involved in, where I felt very trapped and claustrophobic.
Tell us a bit more about your upcoming EP and which sound you would say best represents it.
I have covered Damien Rice and Mazzy Star, along with some new original music. It’s quite experimental with the changing of genres, but retaining fluidity.
Which song on the EP has the most memorable story for you? Whether it’s the writing process, recording sessions or release of the song.
Run (No one will save you); I felt connected with another realm, creatively.
What were the biggest initial hurdles to pursuing your musical dreams and how did you overcome them?
Fear of others judgement, a lot of fear based hurdles. I always felt held back by the way people looked at me as only a Model. I feel very free and confident now.
What has been the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?
Just getting music out there, really.
What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I sometimes talk to myself, I have great answers!
For our final question, is there anything else you would like to add?
Thank you for having me! 🙂
