Thank you for speaking with us at African Hype. What’s the first thing you hope new listeners feel when listening to your music?

That they would be able to connect with the song by relating to the lyrics.

Congratulations on the release of “Alpha”! What is the motivation behind such a lyrically rich and melodically unique single?

I wanted something that would get my fans hyped, and gives out a fun vibe when people listened to it. I needed the song to be short, straight to the point and have replay value. Out came ALPHA.

What has your musical journey been like? Run us through your story.

It’s been a long ride, I released my first mixtape “Young & Unlucky” in 2013 from that got a little buzz and was offered a distribution deal from Bungalo Records. But they required I had 20 thousand dollars out of pocket for music promotion which I didn’t have. Fast forward my some agreements with other companies such as Stem, Music Kickup, etc. And eventually came to AWAL.

In music, there were alot of negatives and positive highlights but I just learned to never give up and always keep pushing forward.

How did the Global pandemic affect your career?

It has helped a lot actually, I’ve been networking, connecting with fans, and more focused. It’s a big inconvenience not going out to perform and having limited travel. But everyone is at home which makes it easier to promote songs.

What inspired you to pursue music?

I heard Lil Boosie’s single “Zoom” in 2006 I was eleven years old, and I started writing lyrics trying to match his. Lil Boosie didn’t inspire me. The art of music itself allows me to be myself and have a voice. I wasn’t dreaming of success when making songs. I was just having fun, working hard so that people would listen.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be?

It would have to be with Lorde, she’s very talented. I Listen to her songs throughout my college semester.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

I don’t really drink soda.

For our final question, is there anything else you would like to add?

I would like to thank African Hype for having me, they are the best to ever do it.
