With new talents emerging from every corner of the globe and competing for the same top prize, sometimes authenticity can be eluded as more and more artists compete to be like other artists. This has always been a dog-eat-dog world, and it really takes some doing to stand out. Among the rapidly rising sensations who have mastered and utilized the recipe for success is Bugzee Lix, one of the most dynamic new artists emerging from the East Coast. His uniqueness is what sets him apart, as he takes inspiration from some of his biggest luminaries, such as 2Pac, and weaves his own authenticity into his craft. His rise has been steady, and he has managed to work with some of the most revered artists globally, such as Snoop Dogg.

Lix is on the radar once again in what is a journey that culminates in five years since he started his craft; his new project, “A Hip-Hop Story,” chronicles a journey that spans five years, 2001–2005, marking his rise to fame and his search for recognition and fame. With this 22-song project, he included some of his most famous tracks, other unreleased material, and some remastered music, creating this spectrum of his inspiring journey.

Bounce That Fatty” is a party anthem right from that eye-catching title. The track features an irresistible beat, Lix brings the intellectual firepower that his ever-expanding fan base has come to expect from him. He blends his sharp-witted bars with some explosive rhymes and first-rate cadence, showcasing why he is a name on so many people’s lips when they are talking about hip-hop excellence.

AMBITIONZ 4 the FpaHcc” is the hallmark of a classic underground masterpiece, with the core of the track residing in that unforgettable hook that is its focal point and one that stays with its listener long after the jam is no more. With this authentic performance, Lix brings both knives and guns to this fight, attacking from all angles and leaving a listener thoroughly entertained with his visionary, resourceful, and inventive flows.

Sweet Thugs” features such a chilled intro, and you can tell that this is from way back when he was starting out. The production isn’t of the highest standards, but you can feel the signs of an emcee who knew what they wanted to achieve and was aiming for the stars. His unorthodox verses and imperious flows tell you what you need to know about him; he’s a star!

Oppression Sicc” features a dynamic instrumentation that is equally matched with the spirited performance. It comes off as cinematic, with the mind-blowing flows and the captivating hook, “money cars weed bitches I’m oppression sicc” haunting the listener long after the final notes fade away. The way Lix rides this beat with exceptional skill is a testament to his lyrical strength and versatility.

Hip Hop Takeover” is a collaborative tour de force featuring Zodiac The Mac. This is another classic-fueled, West Coast-flavored masterpiece that features Lix’s masterful flows in between the memorable chorus that inject the song with R&B sensibilities.  When an artist comes off this hard and analytical, it’s hard to argue with his claim that 2Pac’s legacy lives with him!

The title track, “A Hip Hop Story” is a masterpiece straight out of Old-School’s playbook. This powerhouse collaboration featuring James Jetson and Raja Ghanda is guaranteed to hit you right in the nostalgia as the three gents take it back to the good old hip-hop days with quite the lyrical finesse and charisma. The chilled-out yet expressive instrumentals provide the perfect backdrop for their authoritative flows.

This is just a glimpse and a precursor of what to expect from this 22-track collection that pertains to the inspiring journey of one of the hottest emcees right now.

Dedicate some time to experience this auditory delight; you’ll be glad you did!
