Boney Derrington was born in Kings Country, Brooklyn in New York. He always knew he possessed an undeniable liking for music which was further fueled by his own parent’s inclination toward music and creative arts; his mother was a phenomenally gifted songwriter and his father was a virtuosic guitar player. This and a vast of lifetime musical influences made his love for music get stronger and in turn, started manifesting itself as early as possible as he started working on his passion going by the moniker Boney D when he was 13 years old. He then went to Boney D before landing on his current professional name Boney Derrington which also comes with a vast of in-game experience and maturity. Having taken a hiatus to concentrate on fatherhood he found himself gravitating toward his passion and since first love never dies; we are talking of an acclaimed artist whose single, “Profile” has astonished the music world far and wide!
Building on the massive wave of momentum that the tune has created for him, Boney Derrington released his latest EP, “Tomorrow”- a 5-piece collection with some of the best tracks with enthralling elements of dancehall, reggae, lovers rock, afro beats… you name it. The titled track, “Tomorrow” is very upbeat and infectious but beyond all that danceable quality is an emotionally relatable topic of concern that impacts each and every one of us.
We all live on borrowed time and you can never have your last day and that is why we are encouraged to savor in every little moment. He chose a fun way to pass his messages with memorable hooks, “It’s no promise that I’ll see tomorrow
That’s why I party like there’s no tomorrow
Spending money like there’s no tomorrow…” which doesn’t really encourage recklessness but instead brilliantly puts forward a very introspective message because for anyone who has had near-death experiences, then they savor in each breath they draw- many of us are afraid of dying that we have forgotten how to live!
There is a scintillating fusion of afro beats with dancehall beats for a very prolific and entertaining sound and his harmonious vocals do justice over the warm and ear worming instruments that this track boasts.
The catchy and easily quotable lyrics make this a deeply engaging anthem that will make an impression on any listener who enjoys the feel-good types of jams. This is a straight hit which I have no doubt will be received with warm affection.
