The adage, ‘When music hits you, you feel no pain,’ holds true for Augustwolf’s new album “Visual Music” which features meticulously crafted melodies with concrete meaning that highlight this duo’s remarkable musical talent. Augustwolf is an online musical outfit made up of multi-instrumentalists, composers, and producers Douglas Wolf Reid from the USA and Oleh Andrievsky from Ukraine who met online, sparking an unbreakable musical bond. Since then, they have been blending their musical tastes and ideas in service of something bigger than themselves.

“Visual Music” is, as the title suggests, an 11-track album that was engineered by the both of them despite the challenging circumstances following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The fact that this album was composed, recorded, and released is a huge testament to the duo’s resilience and indefatigable personality.

A listener is treated to quite fascinating tracks that have originated from either of the duo’s thinking, with each track unmistakably bearing the unique imprint of Augustwolf.

While each track from the album has its own unique character, there are shared qualities, namely that they are all cinematic and perceptive. Through it all, a listener is drawn into every moment of what ends up being an immersive listening experience unlike any other.

The opening track, “Pursuit” personifies what this album is all about: music that hits you emotionally without the lyrics. The flow is quite theatrical, backed by vibrant instrumental flows exuded from that thrilling concoction of drums, guitar, percussion, and other exceptional instrumentals.

The same case applies to “The Sorcerer’s Edition,” which emerges from a mellow intro before developing wings of its own and flying with a stimulating and consistent rhythm that is guaranteed to leave you emotionally gratified.

Using rhythm and melody to voice their thoughts about the war in Ukraine, the track “Ukraine Peace and War” is a blend of sentimental, fierce, and electrifying; perfectly fitting its theme and ensuring the message gets home. There is a befitting music video for this track out on YouTube that is worth checking out.

“Visual Music” is a musical masterclass that deserves to be under the spotlight. This is a seamless showcase of musical adroitness and instrumental prowess to authenticate music that stands the test of time.
