In the most altruistic and creatively referential approach to music, Andrea Pizzo and The Purple Mice honor two unsung heroes with their latest double-edged single, “Bombshell”- The title track honors Hedy Lamarr, a renowned Bluetooth and Wi-Fi inventor and actress in Hollywood, and the other, “The Ballad of Alan Mathison” recognizes Alan Turing, whose AI ingenuity saved England and Europe during the Nazis’ atrocious era in the 1940s. As such, both tracks have been given that retro aesthetic that reflects the era in which these heroes’ impact was felt the most!

The title track, “Bombshell” starts with a distinct ‘bum bum’ bass-driven beat that immediately reels a listener in. It then unfurls into a vibrant, synth-heavy, and rock-fueled dance arrangement backed by the soaring vocals. The lead vocalist sings with a celebratory spirit, perhaps capturing the narrative of the song’s protagonist, whose invention still looms large over society and has become the backbone of equally sophisticated inventions. The swirling synths, intricate percussion, and driving melodies create an immersive, energetic, and uplifting listening experience!

In brilliant contrast to the title track, “The Ballad of Alan Mathison” starts with a lo-fi, ambient, piano-driven arrangement that is mellow and subtly cinematic as the raw vocals weave through the stripped-back instrumentation, breathing life into this emotion-driven narrative. This continues until around the 1:27 mark when the punchy drums and muscular guitars are unleashed to mirror the spirit and personality of a rock, backed by such self-assured vocals that sing with heavy emotions and resilient tones…capturing mixed emotions of resoluteness and despair. The rising tension is palpable before the track transitions to a quieter, soul-touching climax.

As you’d probably expect, “Bombshell” is already making waves; it has garnered over 185K streams on Spotify alone!
